Rupiah hits Rp 18.015 per dollar as DPR urges quick action
The weakening currency is already hitting real businesses, with West Java tour bus operators cutting fleets as imported parts get more expensive.
The rupiah in Thursday morning trading, June 4, 2026, fell to Rp 18.015 per U.S. dollar, a level DPR said had crossed a psychological threshold. DPR Deputy Speaker Cucun Syamsurijal questioned what concrete steps Bank Indonesia was taking to curb the currency's slide, while DPR budget committee chief Said Abdullah said monetary intervention alone would not be enough without coordination with fiscal policy and government governance that would give markets more confidence. At the same time, the impact of the exchange rate is starting to be felt by businesses. Ikatan Perusahaan Otobus Pariwisata Jawa Barat said some tour bus operators had begun reducing fleet operations because spare-part prices have risen, while charter bookings have continued to decline since early 2026.
