Rubio meets UAE president, discusses US-Iran MoU and Hormuz
New: AS and UEA also discussed safe shipping lanes in the Selat Hormuz after the June 18 MoU set terms for restoring Iran navigation.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio met with United Arab Emirates President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday to discuss the United States-Iran memorandum of understanding. According to State Department spokesman Tommy Pigott, the talks also covered efforts to keep traffic in the Selat Hormuz safe and uninterrupted, as well as regional stability. The MoU, signed remotely on June 18, sets out an end to the military conflict that began on February 28, a schedule for lifting the US naval blockade of Iranian ports, and the restoration of Iranian shipping in the Selat Hormuz. The document also separates Iran's nuclear program into other negotiations within 60 days.
