Ronaldo Faces 6-Month Ban After Leaving Portugal Squad

The FPF discipline committee is still investigating the incident, and Ronaldo’s status as captain could lead to a tougher sanction.

Cristiano Ronaldo faces a ban of one to six months from Portugal’s national team after the Portuguese Football Federation imposed a temporary sanction for leaving training camp without permission. According to reports cited by ANTARA, the FPF disciplinary committee is now examining the incident before deciding on a final penalty. Ronaldo is said to have apologized to supporters and teammates for leaving ahead of the UEFA Nations League match against Denmark on September 30. The 41-year-old forward is also reported to be ready to accept the ruling. The case has drawn attention because Ronaldo is Portugal’s captain and had previously been reported to be at odds with coach Jorge Jesus. Despite the threat of sanctions, his return to the national team is said to remain possible.
