Cristiano Ronaldo confirmed he has played his last World Cup game after Portugal lost 1-0 to Spain in Dallas and went out in the last 16. The 41-year-old captain said he leaves with “a clear conscience” after a career in which he became the first man to score at six World Cups. His 233rd appearance for Portugal ended when Mikel Merino scored a late winner for Spain. Ronaldo said he had not decided whether to continue with the national team and would take time with his family before making any decision. Portugal coach Roberto Martínez also left after the defeat, calling Ronaldo an exemplary captain and saying the forward’s dream had been to win the tournament.
