Rick Jackson wins Georgia GOP governor runoff after $100 million bid
What's next: Jackson will face Democrat Keisha Lance Bottoms in the fall race to succeed term-limited Gov. Brian Kemp.
Republican businessman Rick Jackson won Georgia's gubernatorial runoff on Tuesday, beating Lt. Gov. Burt Jones for the party's nomination in a closely watched battleground-state race. Jackson, a billionaire who entered the contest in February, spent more than $100 million of his own money on the campaign as he quickly built statewide name recognition. Jones had Donald Trump's endorsement, but it did not carry him to victory. Jackson now moves on to the general election, where he is set to face former Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms, who won the Democratic primary outright last month. The winner will succeed term-limited Republican Gov. Brian Kemp.
