Indonesia lobbies U.S. to exempt palm oil from extra 10% tariff

The government is awaiting USTR's excess-capacity probe, which could determine which commodities remain on the tariff list.

The Indonesian government is still lobbying the United States to exclude palm oil from the additional 10% tariff imposed through a Section 301 investigation. Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto said the exemption request is being processed on the U.S. side. The tariff applies to products from Indonesia under a scheme tied to forced-labor concerns. According to Airlangga, Indonesia is among 17 countries and territories subject to the 10% tariff, after previously being in a group of six out of 60 countries under review. The government is now awaiting the results of a follow-up USTR investigation into excess capacity. Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs spokesman Haryo Limanseto said the findings will be announced soon.
