RI cuts gas exports to Singapore; Wong urges contract respect
Singapore says the cut is less than 2 percent of its supply from Indonesia and is preparing legal steps through gas importers.
The Indonesian government has reduced natural gas exports to Singapore, and Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong has called for obligations under commercial contracts to be carried out. Wong said Singapore gas importers will take the necessary steps to protect their rights and interests. According to the Singapore government, the cut affects less than 2 percent of its gas needs from Indonesia. SKK Migas chief Djoko Siswanto previously said supply from Natuna was diverted to PLN Batam by 15 million standard cubic feet through the WNTS-Pulau Pemping-Batam pipeline, while supply from Sumatra to Singapore was cut by 16 million standard cubic feet per day through the Transgasindo pipeline. Amid the disruption, Wong pointed to Singapore's built LNG terminal and said the country is also seriously studying nuclear energy to ensure a reliable power supply.
