RI, China speed South China Sea code of conduct in 2+2 talks

Both sides also widened TNI-PLA, law enforcement and cyber-security cooperation at the Jakarta meeting.

Indonesia and China pushed for faster completion of a Code of Conduct (CoC) for the South China Sea under the ASEAN-China framework during a 2+2 Dialogue in Jakarta on Friday. In the meeting led by Sugiono, Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, Wang Yi and Dong Jun, the two countries also backed implementation of the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea (DoC), stressing ASEAN centrality. Beyond maritime issues, the delegations agreed to strengthen political, security and defense ties, including military-to-military mechanisms between the TNI and People’s Liberation Army, efforts against transnational crime and cyber-security cooperation through information exchange, joint action and technical dialogue. The meeting followed the inaugural 2+2 dialogue in Beijing in April 2025.
