RI-China hold first dialogue, with investment the main focus
After the CSD, four ministers from RI and China will hold a 2+2 forum on politics, defense and security.
Indonesia and China will hold their first Comprehensive Strategic Dialogue (CSD) on Friday, with the economic partnership taking center stage. Arifianto Sofiyanto, director for East Asia at the Foreign Ministry, said the dialogue will still cover the five pillars of strategic ties — politics, economy, people-to-people relations, maritime affairs and security — but this round will place greater weight on the economy. The focus includes strengthening investment and trade, including China’s support for priority sectors in Indonesia’s government agenda. The Chinese delegation will be led by Foreign Minister Wang Yi and accompanied by deputy minister-level officials for economic affairs. After the CSD, the two countries will continue with a 2+2 format meeting bringing together Wang Yi, Foreign Minister Sugiono, Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin and Defense Minister Dong Jun to discuss political, defense and security issues.
