Reuters/Ipsos poll: Trump approval falls to 33 percent
Eighty percent of Americans expect the U.S. role in Iran to drag on as 60-day talks end without a breakthrough.
Public approval of U.S. President Donald Trump fell to 33 percent in a Reuters/Ipsos poll that closed Monday (17/8), the lowest level of his presidency. Some 64 percent of respondents said they disapproved of his performance, down from 35 percent earlier this month and matching a prior low reached in December 2017. The decline comes amid broad concern that the U.S. conflict with Iran will become prolonged. The survey found 80 percent of Americans, including 71 percent of Republican voters, expect U.S. involvement in Iran to last a long time. At the same time, a 60-day negotiation period under a U.S.-Iran memorandum ended without progress toward a broader peace deal. The conflict is also pressuring the economy through higher gasoline prices and household living costs.
