Ralph Norman joins South Carolina GOP Senate race after Trump pick

What's next: Norman is set to compete in the Aug. 11 special primary for the seat opened by Lindsey Graham's death.

Rep. Ralph Norman of South Carolina entered the state's Republican special Senate primary on Saturday, setting up a direct challenge to President Donald Trump's preferred candidate for the seat. Norman is seeking the post vacated after Sen. Lindsey Graham died, even after Trump backed Darline Graham, Lindsey Graham's sister, to run for the full term. Norman said he had asked Trump for his support but would press ahead anyway. He told Fox News he planned to file for the Aug. 11 primary and campaign on Trump's America First agenda, including support for the SAVE America Act and ending the filibuster. The race is already crowded, with other Republicans also preparing bids.
