What's next: Norman said he is filing for the Aug. 11 special GOP primary and has endorsements from Mike Lee and Rick Scott.
Rep. Ralph Norman is entering South Carolina's special Republican primary for the U.S. Senate seat now held by Darline Graham, setting up a contest despite President Donald Trump's backing for Graham to seek the seat in her own right. Norman revealed his candidacy Saturday in an interview with Kayleigh McEnany and said he would focus on advancing Trump's America First agenda, including the SAVE America Act, and pushing to eliminate the filibuster. Norman said he had sought Trump's blessing, but that the president chose Graham instead. He said that would not change his plans. Norman said he is in the process of filing paperwork for the Aug. 11 special GOP primary. Fox News reported at least two other candidates have declared plans to run, with more challengers expected.
