Rain disperses BEM UI protest at Bundaran HI on Wednesday night

The BEM UI protest with several community groups in the Bundaran HI and Dukuh Atas area of Central Jakarta ended early on Wednesday night after rain hit the location. The crowd began dispersing around 19.15 WIB from in front of the UOB Building, while some participants took shelter along the roadside when rain started around 19.00 WIB. By around 19.50 WIB, the situation at Bundaran HI was reported to be calm. Traffic that had been closed in both directions, from Semanggi to Bundaran HI and the reverse, reopened around 20.00 WIB. The action, initiated by student elements and community groups, had earlier voiced five demands, ranging from education costs and jobs to freedom of expression.
