QRIS users, merchants in South Sulawesi each hit 1.5 million
After seven years, Bank Indonesia is expanding QRIS use with features such as QRIS TAP and urging stronger digital transaction security.
The number of QRIS users and merchants in South Sulawesi has each reached 1.5 million. Bank Indonesia's South Sulawesi representative head Rizki Ernasi Wimanda said the figure marks seven years of the digital payment system's operation in the region.
Entering its eighth year of implementation, Bank Indonesia is pushing broader use of QRIS through more varied features, including QRIS TAP. The authority is also stressing digital literacy so people protect their personal data, PIN and OTP when making transactions to reduce the risk of cybercrime.
The expansion of the QRIS ecosystem in South Sulawesi is also linked to the Sultan QRIS Run 2026 event in Makassar, which involves the financial services industry, banks, payment service providers and communities.
