Purbaya to meet BGN chief this week amid MBG cuts

Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa is scheduled to meet National Nutrition Agency head Nanik S. Deyang this week amid scrutiny over the budget needs of the Makan Bergizi Gratis program. A previous meeting was called off because Purbaya was summoned by the President. Purbaya has not confirmed whether the agenda will cover MBG budget efficiency, saying only that Nanik wanted to meet. Pressure for a smaller funding requirement has risen after State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi said the government would recalculate the program’s financing needs. Purbaya previously said MBG efficiency had reached Rp 40 triliun based on a BGN report in March 2026. Through May 2026, the Finance Ministry reported MBG budget realization at Rp 88,15 triliun.
