Dozens of Hectares of Disaster-Damaged Land in Pidie Jaya Return to Use

Update: land buried in mud since late November 2025 is now planted with shallots, corn and chilies to restore residents' income.

Dozens of hectares of land once buried under mud after a hydrometeorological disaster in Meurah Dua, Pidie Jaya Regency, Aceh, are back in use for farming. The Pidie Jaya Regency government has teamed up with Universitas Syiah Kuala, Bank Indonesia and local farmer groups to develop shallots, corn and chilies in the area, which had been unproductive since late November 2025. On Friday, 17 July 2026, members of Kelompok Tani Jaya were seen tending and harvesting shallots from the land. The program is aimed at restoring the land's function while reviving the local economy of residents affected by the disaster.
