France imposes local curfews after unrest in many cities

In Paris, gatherings are banned from 20.00, while nearly 3,000 stores have been hit by looting in multiple regions.

France imposed limited curfews in several cities after protests fueled by education and cost-of-living issues turned into unrest and looting. In Paris, authorities banned gatherings and demonstrations starting at 20.00, while a curfew is in effect from 23.00-06.00 around Place de la République and in the Les Halles district. Similar restrictions were also introduced in Lille, Lyon, Nice, Douai, Wattignies, Denain, and Coulaines; in some cities they apply only to minors. Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu said the measures are local and intended to restore order. The Federation of Trade and Retail said nearly 3,000 stores were affected, while violence was also reported in Marseille and other cities.
