Pramono inaugurates An-Nur Floating Mosque in Ancol

The 2,241-square-meter mosque is being prepared as a new religious tourism destination on Jakarta's coast.

DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung inaugurated the An-Nur Floating Mosque in the Ancol area, Pademangan, North Jakarta, on Friday. The mosque is expected to become a new religious tourism destination in the capital while adding a place of worship for residents and visitors to Ancol. The 2,241-square-meter building can currently hold 600 worshippers in the main prayer hall, including 460 men and 140 women. Pramono said capacity could be expanded by about 300 more worshippers through development of the plaza area. The mosque was designed by architect Andra Matin with the Bahtera Iman philosophy and a pentagonal base, referring to the five pillars of Islam and the five daily prayers. PT Pembangunan Jaya Ancol Tbk is being encouraged to manage the mosque so it can become a new symbol of Jakarta's coast.
