Prabowo weighs BI governor names, Destry among contenders
The Palace says the presidential letter to the DPR has not been sent, though a nominee is expected before the weekend.
President Prabowo Subianto is still finalizing the name of a permanent Bank Indonesia governor candidate, and Destry Damayanti is among those being considered. State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi said the President has discussed the matter with a number of parties and summoned several names to talk about the direction of BI policy going forward. However, as of Friday, the presidential letter to nominate a candidate to the DPR had not been sent. Destry is now serving as acting BI governor after Perry Warjiyo stepped down from the post of Bank Indonesia governor in July 2026. CNBC Indonesia reported the new candidate’s name will be submitted to the DPR before the end of this week.
