Prabowo receives 8 Papua artifacts repatriated by FBI from US

Five artifacts were handed over in Jakarta, while three others had been entrusted to KBRI Washington for return.

President Prabowo Subianto received the return of eight cultural artifacts from Papua that had previously been smuggled to the United States. Five artifacts were handed directly by FBI Director Kash Patel at Kertanegara, Jakarta, on 22 July 2026, while the other three were first turned over by the FBI to KBRI in Washington D.C. for repatriation processing. According to Minister of Culture Fadli Zon, the artifacts include an engraved human skull, stone axes, a chisel axe from the Danau Sentani area, and a decorated wooden club from the Asmat tribe. He said the return is part of Indonesia's repatriation cooperation with the FBI to combat the illegal trade in cultural heritage objects. The artifacts from the cultural heritage of Dani, Asmat, and Danau Sentani are scheduled to be displayed at Museum Nasional.
