Prabowo pushes gas-to-electric motorcycle trade-in in Cikarang
The government is also preparing lower installment rates and no-down-payment purchases, while targeting 2 million domestic electric motorcycles.
President Prabowo Subianto pushed for a faster shift to electric motorcycles by preparing a trade-in scheme for owners of gas-powered bikes. At the inauguration of National Electric Motorcycles and their supporting ecosystem at the production facility of PT Ilectra Motor Group (ALVA) in Cikarang, Bekasi Regency, on Thursday, Prabowo said the government is also seeking lower installment interest and purchases without a down payment. He said using electric motorcycles can cut daily mobility costs by at least 50 percent, and by as much as 70 percent. Prabowo also urged national production to rise far beyond the 20 thousand units achieved by the Indika group, with a long-term target of 2 million units. He said strengthening electric vehicles is important to reduce Indonesia's dependence on fuel imports.
