Prabowo prepares cleanest-city contest with Rp20 billion prize
Five cities ranked 6-10 are also set to receive Rp10 billion incentives, with a target to finish the trash problem by end-2027.
President Prabowo Subianto is preparing a contest for the cleanest city with an incentive prize of Rp20 billion for the top five cities. He outlined the plan during the mass signing of 62,000 subsidized housing mortgage units in Batang, Central Java, on Thursday, as part of an effort to push local governments to improve environmental cleanliness and waste management. Prabowo also prepared Rp10 billion in incentives for the next five cities. He said budget support would be more useful than a trophy because it could be used to buy trucks, excavators and other sanitation equipment. He asked regional heads, TNI and Polri to regularly monitor rivers, drainage channels and residential areas, and to act against places that remain dirty after repeated warnings. Prabowo also set a target to resolve Indonesia's waste problem by the end of 2027.
