Prabowo launches mandatory B50 biodiesel in Karawang
Fuel companies have until 30 September 2026 to clear B40 stock, with B50 performance to be reviewed every three months.
President Prabowo Subianto launched the Mandatory Biodiesel B50 Program at Rest Area KM 57 in Karawang, West Java, on Thursday, marking the start of a nationwide 50 percent biodiesel blend in diesel fuel. The program is designed to curb fuel imports, strengthen energy security, and increase the value-added output of domestic palm oil. Its implementation follows ESDM Minister Regulation No. 4 of 2025 and ESDM Minister Decree No. 257.K/EK.01/MEM.E/2026. The government has set a transition period until 30 September 2026 for fuel companies to exhaust B40 stock. The ESDM Ministry will evaluate B50 implementation every three months. The government said the B40 program in 2025 saved Rp133,3 trillion in foreign exchange, while B50 in 2026 is projected to save about Rp170 trillion and cut greenhouse gas emissions.
