Prabowo links low teacher pay to budget leakage

He cited losses from fake export reports at US$908 billion over 34 years, or about Rp15.000 trillion, from under-invoicing.

President Prabowo Subianto linked low pay for teachers and civil servants to state budget leakage, especially from fake export reports and commodity smuggling. Closing the Munas Alim Ulama and Konbes Nahdlatul Ulama 2026 at Institut Agama Islam Syaichona Mohammad Cholil in Bangkalan, East Java, on Tuesday, Prabowo said losses from under-invoicing reached US$908 billion over 34 years, or about Rp15.000 trillion. He said the data was compiled by the Dewan Ekonomi Nasional from United Nations Comtrade. Prabowo gave the example of exporters reporting only part of the volume of goods shipped. He also said systemic leakage is estimated at Rp2.500 trillion a year, while the government claims to have reclaimed more than 5 million hectares of problematic palm oil plantations and shut hundreds of illegal mines.
