Prabowo has not picked Perry's replacement, Destry leads BI temporarily
The president must nominate the next BI governor, who then needs approval from Commission XI after a fit-and-proper test in the DPR.
President Prabowo Subianto has not determined a replacement for Perry Warjiyo after receiving Perry's resignation letter on July 26, 2026. For now, the Bank Indonesia governor's seat is being handled by Senior Deputy Governor Destry Damayanti as acting governor. The appointment was decided at the Board of Governors Meeting on July 26 and refers to Article 50 paragraph (2) of the Bank Indonesia Law, last amended by Law No. 4 of 2026 on the Development and Strengthening of the Financial Sector. State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi said there has been no further discussion on a permanent candidate. In the DPR, Commission XI has also not received an assignment for a fit-and-proper test and is still waiting for the name proposed by the president.
