Prabowo claims Indonesia self-sufficient in 8 food items in a year
In the Aug. 14 state address, the president said beef and buffalo meat are still short of self-sufficiency, while garlic is targeted within three years.
President Prabowo Subianto said Indonesia has achieved self-sufficiency in eight food commodities in one year, faster than the four-year target previously set by the government. He made the remarks at the Annual Session of the MPR RI and the Joint Session of the DPR RI-DPD RI at the parliamentary complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Friday, Aug. 14, 2026. The commodities cited in several reports include rice, corn, consumer sugar, broiler meat, chicken eggs, shallots, large chilies and bird’s eye chilies. In his speech, Prabowo also acknowledged that several commodities remain short of self-sufficiency, including beef, buffalo meat and garlic. For garlic, he set a target of achieving independence within three years.
