Polri denies new Rp250,000 fine for bald tires
Police said the 1-month jail threat or Rp250,000 fine has long existed in the LLAJ Law, not as a new policy.
Polri denied social media reports claiming there was a new Rp250,000 fine for motorcycle riders using bald tires. Korlantas Polri and the Traffic Directorate of Polda Metro Jaya said the information was hoax. Korlantas chief Inspector General Wibowo explained that the maximum one-month prison term or Rp250,000 fine has long been listed in Law No. 22/2009 on Road Traffic and Transportation for vehicles that do not meet technical and roadworthiness requirements. He added that bald tires can qualify as a violation because they endanger safety. Tire technical standards are also regulated under PP No. 55/2012, which requires tread depth of at least 1 millimeter.
