Poll puts Democrats ahead in 5 GOP-held Senate races
What's new: The survey showed a tied race in Iowa and a double-digit Democratic lead in Michigan days before the midterms.
A New York Times/Siena poll released Sunday put Democratic candidates ahead in five Senate races now held by Republicans, signaling fresh risk for the GOP days before the 2026 midterm elections. The poll found Democrats leading in Alaska, Kansas, Maine, Ohio and Texas, with Iowa essentially even. In Michigan, the only Democratic-held seat in the survey, Democrat Abdul El-Sayed led Republican Mike Rogers by 11 points. Among the closest marquee races, Democrat James Talarico led Republican Ken Paxton 50% to 43% in Texas, and Democrat Adam Hamilton led Sen. Roger Marshall 49% to 44% in Kansas. Siena Research Institute Executive Director Don Levy cautioned that several contests remain within the margin of error.
