Polda Metro Jaya Uncovers Fake Stamp Ring, 16 Arrested
Authorities seized 3.4 million counterfeit stamps and said the network could have cost the state up to Rp1,03 trillion in lost revenue.
Polda Metro Jaya, working with the Direktorat Jenderal Pajak, has dismantled a cross-provincial network that produced and distributed counterfeit stamps, with 16 people named as suspects. Police seized 3,438,541 fake Rp10.000 stamps, one printing machine, three rolls of paper raw material, and several marketplace accounts used for sales. The group used two methods: printing new counterfeit stamps and refurbishing used stamps by erasing signatures, stamps or dates so they appeared new. Investigators said at least 4,007,334 stamps were sold over the past year, generating about Rp40,07 miliar in turnover. The seized raw materials are estimated to be enough to print more than 33 million more stamps, putting potential state losses at Rp1,03 triliun.
