Polda Metro Jaya seizes Rp36 billion in counterfeit cash, 4 held
Police suspect the Rp100,000 notes were to be mixed with genuine money before entering a private bank.
Polda Metro Jaya has dismantled a counterfeit-money factory at Ruko Taman Tekno, Setu, South Tangerang, Banten, and seized 360,000 Rp100,000 notes with a face value of Rp36 billion. Four suspects, identified by the initials N, S, D and AB, were arrested. Two of them are repeat offenders in similar cases in 2019 and 2022. The Special Criminal Investigation Directorate said AB acted as financier, controller and issuer of orders, while the three other suspects printed the counterfeit money. Police said the syndicate had operated for about four months, with production equipment worth about Rp1 billion. Investigators are also examining the distribution plan, because the printed notes were allegedly to be mixed with genuine cash and sent to one private bank, but had not yet entered circulation.
