Polda Metro arrests woman over hoax 17 Agustus protest post
Police seized a phone, TikTok account, SIM and email, while probing the motive and possible involvement of others.
The Polda Metro Jaya Cyber Crime Directorate arrested a woman identified as DM, 45, in Ciamis Regency, West Java, on suspicion of spreading a hoax calling for a protest ahead of the 81st anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia on 17 August 2026. Police traced the post through cyber patrols, identified DM's TikTok account and arrested her at home without resistance. Investigators seized a cellphone believed to have been used to upload the content, along with the TikTok account, SIM card and email account. Initial findings indicated the video was an old protest recording that had been edited and given a narration suggesting there would be a large demonstration to bring down the president and vice president. Police are still examining the motive, possible involvement of others and digital evidence.
