PNM Mekaar helps Ila build sewing business after husband loses job
With funds to buy a sewing machine, Ila began taking orders, supporting her family’s finances and her children’s schooling.
Ila, a resident of Tangerang, started a home-based sewing business after her family’s income was hit during the Covid-19 pandemic. The strain came when her husband lost his job, while Ila was pregnant and household needs continued. Through the PNM Mekaar program, she obtained access to capital to buy a sewing machine as her starting asset. From there, Ila began taking sewing and clothing repair orders, then gradually built customers in her neighborhood. She said the support helped her recover from a difficult period. Now, the business is said to help support the family’s finances, pay for the children’s schooling, and help them have a more decent home.
