PLN brings power to 128 villages in Papua, eyes 199 more
The next phase covers 199 villages across six provinces in Tanah Papua, with completion targeted in stages through 2027.
PLN electrified 128 villages in Tanah Papua throughout 2026 under the Listrik Desa program, covering the provinces of Papua, Papua Barat, Papua Selatan and Papua Barat Daya. To support the expansion, PLN built 742.58 kilometers circuit of medium-voltage lines, 286.71 kilometers circuit of low-voltage lines, and distribution transformers with total capacity of 7,450 kVA. The program will continue to 199 villages in six provinces — Papua, Papua Barat, Papua Selatan, Papua Barat Daya, Papua Tengah and Papua Pegunungan — which are targeted for phased completion through 2027. PLN President Director Suroso Isnandar said the construction pattern was adjusted to terrain, access and distances between settlements. House Commission XII member Cheroline Chrisye Makalew also called for data alignment with local governments and the use of solar power and micro-hydro for hard-to-reach areas.
