PLN cites engine failures in outages across 14 West Java areas
ESDM dismissed coal-crisis speculation, saying assigned fuel supply for power plants remains at 170 million tons.
PT PLN (Persero) acknowledged operational problems at a number of power plant units that helped cut electricity supply and triggered rolling outages in 14 areas of West Java since Wednesday (10/6). PLN said Java's power system remains safe and under control, and denied that a blackout occurred. Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia also dismissed speculation that the outages were caused by coal shortages. He said the assigned coal supply for power plants reaches 170 million tons, while the disruption stemmed from technical problems at several units. The government and PLN are now accelerating restoration and say they are working to prevent rolling outages from recurring in the near term.
