Phoenix heat streak hits 100 days as West faces wildfire danger

Phoenix has logged 100 days of 95 degrees Fahrenheit or higher this year through July 31, and forecasters expect the streak to continue as a heat dome bakes much of the Western United States. The National Weather Service forecast highs of 116F in Phoenix and 115F in Las Vegas, where overnight lows in the upper 80s and low 90s are limiting relief. El Centro, California, could reach a record 118F, while Great Falls, Montana, was forecast to hit 104F, above its previous record. Meteorologists also warned the heat and very low humidity are increasing wildfire danger across dry parts of the West, including areas of Montana and Southern California.
