PGN installs 4,500 household gas links in Sleman using CNG
The Yogyakarta pilot is part of a wider push to curb LPG imports and subsidies through a target of 350,000 connections a year.
PT Perusahaan Gas Negara (PGN) has built more than 4,500 household gas network connections in Sleman Regency, DI Yogyakarta, using a compressed natural gas (CNG) clustering scheme. The distribution network stretches more than 141 kilometers and delivers an average of about 84,000 cubic meters of gas a month. Deputy Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Yuliot Tanjung inspected the project on 19 June and said the model aligns with efforts to expand natural gas use as a transition energy source. According to PGN, the CNG clustering scheme allows gas to be supplied to households without waiting for the main transmission pipeline network. The government is targeting about 350,000 household connections a year in the 2026-2029 RPJMN to reduce subsidized LPG consumption, LPG imports and the energy subsidy burden.
