Farmers in 4 cities give away 6,700 chickens and eggs in protest
The coordinated action in Makassar, Yogyakarta, Boyolali and Temanggung pressed the government to stabilize feed and egg prices at HAP levels.
Chicken farmers in Makassar, Yogyakarta, Boyolali and Temanggung held a peaceful protest on Monday (10/8) by handing out free chickens and eggs to residents. They used the action to protest high feed prices, low farm-gate selling prices and the losses they have absorbed. In Yogyakarta, Paguyuban Peternak Petelur Yogyakarta (P3Y) distributed about 1,200 laying hens in the Malioboro area. In Temanggung, a chicken farmers' group handed out 5,500 chickens on a main road. In Makassar and Boyolali, farmers also distributed chickens and eggs while demanding egg price stabilization in line with the purchase reference price and protection for small farmers from the dominance of large corporations.
