Gayo Lues official resigns after child’s flexing video goes viral
The Gayo Lues administration will study the resignation letter and form a special team to investigate the controversy.
Asisten I Sekretariat Daerah Kabupaten Gayo Lues, Nevirizal, submitted his resignation on Thursday, July 23, 2026, after a video of his child’s flexing sparked a dispute on social media. The resignation letter was handed to Wakil Bupati Gayo Lues Maliki while the regent was out of town. Nevirizal said the move was a moral responsibility because scrutiny of a family member’s behavior was seen as affecting public trust in the local government. At the same time, Dea Arranoya, Nevirizal’s child, issued a public apology and said the post was not wise. One of the posts that drew attention was a December 9, 2025 upload showing a row of BBM jerrycans. Pemkab Gayo Lues said it would review the letter and form a special team to investigate the matter.
