PBSI appoints Nova Widianto to lead training-center mixed doubles
Nova returns after PBSI ended its partnership with Rionny Mainaky and Amon Sunaryo at the end of July.
PP PBSI has appointed Nova Widianto as head coach of the national training center mixed doubles team, replacing Rionny Mainaky. The appointment marks Nova’s second stint in Cipayung after he previously held a similar post in 2021. He returned to Indonesia after finishing his duties as head coach of Malaysia’s national mixed doubles team at the end of July.
PBSI training and achievement chief Eng Hian said Nova’s experience as a player and coach is needed to speed up regeneration and strengthen the competitiveness of Indonesia’s mixed doubles sector. PBSI parted ways with Rionny and his assistant, Amon Sunaryo, after evaluating the development program for the sector.
As a player, Nova won two world titles with Liliyana Natsir in 2005 and 2007, and took the silver medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
