Partai Gerakan Rakyat registers with Kemenkum, eyes 2029 vote

Partai Gerakan Rakyat formally submitted its registration documents as a political party to the Ministry of Law in South Jakarta on Thursday, July 23, 2026. Chairman Sahrin Hamid said all administrators in 38 provinces had obtained a Certificate of Registration as of July 22, 2026, so the initial administrative requirements were considered complete. He said the filing is only the first step because the party does not yet have legal-entity status. Once that approval is issued, the next target is to qualify as an election participant and contest the Pemilu 2029. Gerakan Rakyat was previously a mass organization inaugurated on February 27, 2025, before deciding to transform into a party at a national working meeting on January 17-18, 2026. Anies Baswedan was named as an inspirational figure for the movement.
