OpenAI engineer charged over hidden bug in San Francisco office
What's new: Prosecutors said the encrypted device was found in an executive conference room two days after it was installed.
Federal prosecutors charged OpenAI engineer Abdulrahman Alfozan, a Saudi national, with planting a covert recording device in the company's San Francisco office to capture sensitive discussions about AI products. Investigators said the encrypted device was discovered on Sept. 30, wrapped in toilet paper and plugged into a USB port behind a TV in an executive conference room, two days after it was allegedly installed. OpenAI said it alerted the FBI after finding the device and later fired the employee. The company said it found no sign that source code, model weights or customer data had been improperly accessed or taken.
