Oleshky evacuees reunite with families after route through Belarus
What's new: The evacuees traveled out through Crimea and Russia before crossing into northern Ukraine as a Kherson ceasefire remained in effect through Sunday.
Evacuees from the Russian-occupied city of Oleshky were reunited with relatives in Ukraine on Saturday after crossing from Belarus into the Chernihiv region, the BBC reported. The group arrived by buses and ambulances after leaving the devastated southern city on Friday. Their route took them through Crimea and Russia before they re-entered Ukraine from the north. The reunions came days after a ceasefire in the Kherson frontline region took effect on Tuesday. The pause in fighting was brokered by Melania Trump, identified by the BBC as the US first lady, and was due to stay in place until the end of Sunday, Nov. 1.
