Oklahoma City man charged in 700-plus powder-letter threats

Why it matters: The mailings targeted election officials in all 50 states and forced evacuations in Louisiana and Oklahoma.

Federal prosecutors charged Robin Martin, 67, of Oklahoma City with conveying hoaxes and mailing threatening communications after investigators tied him to hundreds of letters containing white powder sent before the 2024 and 2026 elections. Court filings say more than 700 mailings this fall went to election officials, members of Congress, pollsters, media outlets and federal law enforcement, while earlier letters in 2024 reached election officials nationwide. Tests found the powder was harmless yeast or flour, though some items were still being examined. The letters warned of arrests for treason and included threats such as “it won’t be flour next time,” prompting evacuations at election offices in Louisiana and Oklahoma.
