Ohio man reaches besieged West Bank home after weeklong settler siege

Why it matters: The U.S. condemned the standoff as Israeli troops kept the area under military control.

Loui Ridi, a Palestinian American from Ohio, returned Monday to his family’s home in Qusra in the occupied West Bank after Israeli settlers surrounded it for more than a week. Ridi said he flew from Detroit after watching the siege unfold on security cameras from the U.S. Israeli troops escorted him through the gate after he waited outside the property, where his brother and teenage nephew had stayed to guard the house. The U.N. has said 15 Palestinians, including two children and the two people inside Ridi’s home, were trapped in homes in Qusra without running water or electricity. Israel’s military said it deployed forces to contain settlers and maintain security, but settlers remained near the houses.
