NYT: Trump Questions JD Vance as 2028 Successor
The New York Times says Trump has repeatedly questioned whether JD Vance is fit to lead the Republican ticket in 2028.
The New York Times reported that Donald Trump doubts the suitability of U.S. Vice President JD Vance as his successor in the 2028 presidential election. According to the report, Trump has repeatedly sought opinions about Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, even asking guests in early May who would be more qualified to be the Republican presidential candidate. NYT also said Trump often compares Vance with himself, including on election wins, vacation habits and public behavior. In the same report, White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles was said to have suggested that Vance cut back on his social media sparring. Even so, people close to Trump and Vance still view Vance as the strongest figure to succeed Trump in 2028.
