NUS requires AI course for all freshmen, expands ChatGPT access
What's new: About 7,700 incoming students started the module in July, and ChatGPT Edu rolls out to students and staff on Aug. 31.
The National University of Singapore will require all incoming undergraduates to complete an artificial intelligence course and will give students, faculty and staff access to ChatGPT Edu as it broadens AI across teaching. The new compulsory module, “Applied Generative AI: From Prompting to Evaluation,” must be finished within freshmen’s first two weeks of the semester. NUS said more than 7,700 students entering this year began the course in July. From Aug. 31, the university community will get baseline access to OpenAI’s ChatGPT Edu, with more advanced tools piloted in selected courses. NUS said the push is part of a wider strategy to make graduates “AI fluent” while also embedding AI-related coursework across majors and common curricula.
