Nscale pursues new $45 billion Anthropic deal after Microsoft exit

What's new: The talks center on a second West Virginia facility with 460 megawatts of capacity using Nvidia's Vera Rubin chips.

Nscale is negotiating a new AI cloud contract with Anthropic worth about $45 billion, even as the data center developer absorbs a setback from Microsoft's withdrawal from a planned UK project. A person familiar with the talks said the proposed agreement covers computing power from a second building at Nscale's Monarch campus in West Virginia, with 460 megawatts of capacity built around Nvidia Vera Rubin chips. In August, Anthropic agreed to spend $45 billion for capacity at Monarch's first building. Microsoft had been due to anchor Nscale's first British data center in Loughton, Essex, but the project has faced delays and power supply constraints stretching into the 2030s. Nscale's Norway flagship is also running about six months late.
