Norway routs Iraq 4-1 in Boston as Haaland nets 2

Norway opens Group I with three points ahead of matches against Senegal and France.

Norway opened its 2026 World Cup campaign with a 4-1 victory over Iraq in a Group I match in Boston, United States, on Thursday morning WIB. Erling Haaland scored two goals in the 29th and 43rd minutes, before Leo Ostigard added another in the 76th minute. Norway's final goal was recorded as an own goal by Aymen Hussein in injury time. Iraq had briefly equalized through an Aymen Hussein header in the 39th minute after a pass from Amir Al Ammari. Martin Odegaard played a role in Norway's third goal with a corner that Ostigard headed in. The result gave a positive start to Stale Solbakken's side, which is next scheduled to face Senegal and France in the group stage.
