Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey” brought in an estimated $124.5 million domestically and $264.1 million worldwide in its opening weekend, giving Universal its biggest global debut for a Nolan film. The Matt Damon-led adaptation drew heavily on premium large-format screens, with IMAX contributing nearly $30 million in the U.S. and about $22 million internationally. IMAX accounted for roughly 24% of domestic sales. The film has yet to debut in China, Japan and South Korea, leaving room for more international growth. It faces limited direct competition until Sony and Marvel’s “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” arrives July 31.
