Netanyahu Accuses Iran of Trying to Kill His Son
The claim came ahead of the 27 October election, as Israeli media reports said details of an old case were kept quiet by military censors.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu accused Iran of trying to kill one of his sons in an interview with Channel 14 on 24 August. He did not say which son he meant and gave no details about the alleged attack. The claim came as Israel debated the need for tight security around political figures ahead of the 27 October election, including Gadi Eisenkot, a former military chief now challenging Netanyahu. According to Israeli media reports cited by The Straits Times and Republika, the alleged assassination attempt has been known for months but could not be published because of military censorship. Yedioth Ahronoth also reported that Israeli security agencies, including Shin Bet and Mossad, believe the threat to Netanyahu and his family will remain high.
